Well, now that I’ve recovered from that October blogging frenzy, let’s look at other areas of life. Like makeup.
I don’t spend a lot of time on makeup, but it’s definitely a part of life as a female in this society. You can’t escape it. And as a middle-age woman I fell hook, line, and sinker for the promise on the “Boom! By Cindy Joseph” website: the first pro-age cosmetic line for women of every generation. And another tag line, “It’s about women, it’s about beauty, it’s about time.” And then the videos and pictures of make-up artist/super model/cosmetics guru 64-year-old Cindy Joseph.
In plain English, that’s $76 for a trio of products: cheek color, moisturizer-in-a-stick (aka GloStick,) glimmery cheek color, and $36 for some heavy-duty moisturizer. Heavens knows my 50+ face could use moisturizer.
“Color is easy to apply but feels heavy/waxy. Color lasts a long time. Boomsilk is great if you like the subtle smell of olive oil; it’s thick and rich and makes your skin look greasy because it takes a long time to sink into the skin. And my face feels kinda tingly.”
“The GloStick is solid like lipstick. I rolled it around on my face and glowed like I’d been sweating. I used some toilet paper to dim the glow, and still glowed. And it sits on your face for hours. I eventually washed it off and had no more shine or glow. Maybe I need to watch more of the videos… Oh no! There’s Cindy Joseph looking awesome and dewy.”
I washed both attempts off my face within an hour. Clearly, Boom! By Cindy Joseph makeup was not off to a good start in my life.
A Month Of Boom!
I watched more videos to learn how to best apply Boom! And it didn’t take long for me to realize that I had applied way too much: I scooped up a glob of Boomsilk on my fingers and rolled it over my face. All you really need is a little bit, as in a teeny tiny bit. Same thing is true of the color and glimmer stuff: a little goes a very long way.
Once I figured that out, I was safe to go out in public, and did so for most of September. I liked how I looked; there was a glow. And the color when applied properly lasted all day – in a good way. And I think (but am not sure) that my skin was improving. That was either from the GloStick or from the fact that I had makeup on almost every day, not sure which. And, truth be told, I didn’t use the BoomSilk moisturizer that much. And I got no compliments about how great I looked and no comments about how I’d changed my look (which is normal, so no change.)
It’s been over a month since I stopped using Boom! Nothing in particular stopped me, other than I wanted to see what it was like to go without applying Boom. I was also really tired of the greasiness. Pretty sure my skin is now starting to dry out. But then I wonder if that’s because of the change of seasons and inside heating/dry air – or because I’m not using Boom! products?
Sorry, Boom! You’re just too greasy for me for everyday wear. My regular makeup goes on just as fast, is not greasy, and is a whole lot cheaper. That said, the GloStick/Boomsilk moisturizer is definitely something to consider if you’re looking for big time moisturizing. The Boomsilk is more like a night cream, and I’ve got a lot of it, so I’ll probably keep using it just to see what happens; I’ll update here if I notice any great changes. But otherwise, nope, nada, not worth it.
