Never heard of them? You’re not alone. This is nearly three month old company have captured my fashion heart and dollars with -well- pure moxie.
The Merriam-Webster definition of moxie includes:
- Energy and pep: This team of ladies has both in spades. I can’t imagine the long days and late nights they’re working.
- Courage and determination: Got it. They’re taking chances and trying new things.
- Know-How: Oh boy, do they ever have fashion industry chops.
At first blush, the website isn’t impressive. While prices are decent, there are also stock photos and not much to choose from. Don’t worry, the real Moxie magic happens via their Facebook group. Here’s just a sampling of awesomeness they’ve launched exclusively to group members:
This one-day-only event was one of the funnest online shopping events ever. About every 30 minutes Moxie.Style released a new batch of super-duper deals of remaining stock and new fall pieces. I got a royal blue maxi dress for $3.
What else is there to say? No one sells maxi dresses for $3. But Moxie.Style just might.
Fame is an apparel industry event where retailers go to buy merchandise to stock online or brick and mortar stores. Although a lot of of shopping is done online these days, there are still amazing apparel marts where -if you’re a store owner- you can meet the manufacturer, feel the fabrics, and try on clothes to get a real sense of how they run size wise. During the event, Moxie.Style
- Showed the Facebook group pictures of awesome clothes,
- Had the group “vote” for favorite clothes, and then
- Offered a surprise package of X Fame items for X dollars. Some of the items were things you voted for, some weren’t – but you recognized every single piece. I got six amazing pieces.
This was a truly unique approach to retailing, and I sure hope they do something like this again. It was just amazing to get a glimpse “behind the retail” scenes and see all the yumminess.
Labor Day Sale
OK, here’s more craziness. A manufacturer had an end of the season sale – no biggie, right? Moxie.Style wanted to jump in on the sale, but asked the Facebook group for preferences. That is, do you want a grab bag? do you want to pick individual items? AND, they even explained the consequences of each; for example, going with individual items might make the cost more. So they’re passing on savings, and asking the consumer to help them make business decisions. Can’t say I’ve ever seen that in retailing.
In the end, Moxie.Style completely reworked their website to accommodate the sale. Again – amazing. Each piece from the manufacturer was $10 – shirts, dresses, ponchos, leggings, you name it. Plus they contacted other manufacturers for similar bargains and threw a few surprises too. What’s not to love?
CYO Reveal and Voting
There are a number of online retailers offering mystery bags: you select one or two items, and the retailer surprises you with a couple other things. But as you’ve learned, Moxie.Style is not like most retailers. In creating the “Curate Your Own (CYO)” totes, they ask the Facebook group members to vote on potential contents. Then they did a LiveStream event and revealed the “Featured Favorites” for the month. They modeled the pieces themselves and talked about fit and quality. The cool thing is they’re doing this nearly every month. So YOU vote on what just might be included, and YOU get to pick one item and they surprise you with one or two other things.
You got it. There’s an auction, Las Vegas trip, and scavenger hunt afoot.. There’s a Moxie.Style box on the way, a street team from Facebook group members already going strong, and probably more I can’t think of right now. You earn points for every dollar you spend. Key Moxie.Style folks are active and responsive in the Facebook group: they answer customer service questions, and transparently share other behind-the-scenes business glimpses. Gahh, I just love them.
Never mind, here are some awkward fashion selfies of my Moxie.Style stuff:
And here are some more:
^There’s that $3 dress. Doesn’t it look fabulous?
Moxie.Style is an online retailer to watch – it’s the future of retailing where you contribute to the decisions the retailer makes. Go get yourself into that Facebook group, set up your profile at Moxie.Style, and get ready for some fashion fun at affordable prices!
