Day 12 falls on a Monday for me. That means I’m up and out of the house and at work. How in heavens name can anyone possibly bring meditation, mindfulness, and the outside world into the work place?
I’m in a office all day, and don’t have a view to the outside unless I get up and walk around. I’m also in a dark corner with overhead florescent lighting and it’s cold. Cold enough that I almost always have a wool shawl around my shoulders. While I do take care of the plants in the office, I don’t have one at my desk. Still, I do say hello to them as I pass, and definitely talk with them as I give them water.
Here are some ways to sneak in a little respite as you get acclimatized to the new work week:
- On Twitter, check out #meditationmonday or #motivationmonday
- On lunch or for a break, go outside. Take a walk, soak up the sun, small the breeze.
- Eat some of your lunch mindfully. Does the takeout food really taste as good as all that?
And yes, I did say “acclimatized” to the new work week. As an introvert, I find walking into work on some Monday’s akin to a slap in the face. It’s a harsh awakening after a couple of days of quiet and solitude. It’s not that I don’t enjoy what I do or my co-workers; it’s that I dislike having to “put my game face on” and “get it done” and whatever. I’d rather read a book or do the laundry or, well, just sit and be quiet. And that’s #MondayMoanin.
So today, just breathe. As you plunge into the chaos of work, breathe. This Monday will pass soon enough.
